The people of Haiti have been inflicted with yet another devastating tragedy. A large majority of those injured in the earthquake suffered orthopedic crush injuries such as fractures, compartment syndromes, dislocations, and spinal cord injuries. Those that were injured and survived will be a generation with amputated limbs, limb deformities from inadequately healed fractures, post-traumatic arthritis, and spinal cord paraplegics. Doctors Carlos Lavernia and Pieter Hommen have worked with Dr. Larry Dorr internationally acclaimed Operation Walk founder to assist those hurt by the earthquake in Haiti through its newly established chapter: Operation Walk Haiti.
The Mission of Operation Walk Haiti will be to restore to those injured in the earthquake the ability to walk and function as useful members of what will hopefully be a new Haiti. We will utilize a multi-disciplinary approach that will include necessary surgery, physical and occupational therapy, and the use of prosthetic devices. The ultimate goal will be to turn the crippled into productive members of society.
Every item, dollar, and work contribution will go directly to help the Haitians, as the organization is a not for profit and the board members are all volunteers.
Here's the list of immediate supplies needed.
Thank you for helping the people of Haiti!
